Following the culturally resonant lead single Thakatha Njalo, Umzulu Phaqa returns with her second single Unlimited Budget, deepening the spiritual and conceptual world of her debut album. Where Thakatha Njalo announced her arrival, Unlimited Budget anchors it. A gospel-pop song exploring themes of divine provision, resilience and spiritual confidence, its hook, "Owami uNkulunkulu une Unlimited Budget", is not a reference to money. It is a declaration that God's resources, power and ability to provide exist beyond human limitation. Unlimited budget becomes a symbol of abundance, favour and grace that cannot be exhausted and the song its most direct statement of faith.
Umzulu Phaqa, Volume 1 is described as a space where pop is stretched, flipped and reimagined. Each song explores a different shade of the genre, moving fluidly between restraint and boldness always in service of purpose and identity. The album draws from a wide range of influences: the fearless honesty of Brenda Fassie, the electric stage presence of Lebo Mathosa and the polished hook-driven sensibility of Sabrina Carpenter. It is that last thread, mainstream English pop craft woven through an unmistakably African foundation that defines the album's ambition. The result is entirely Umzulu Phaqa's own globally resonant, culturally grounded and unwilling to choose between the two.
The project lives in what the artist calls controlled chaos, experimentation that never loses its clarity. Playful, unpredictable and layered, Volume 1 invites listeners into a world that is as emotionally rich as it is musically daring.
